How it works
Paste your essay without the reference list. Leave block quotes out too, then put them back in your document afterwards so they stay word for word.
PureWrite rewrites sentence structure and rhythm in a clear, formal register. Reread the result and make sure your thesis still says exactly what you mean.
Read the built-in AI score, then add a class reference or an example of your own. That last step matters more for Turnitin than any tool does.
On August 27, 2025, Turnitin announced AI bypasser detection, an update to its AI writing detector aimed squarely at humanizer tools. Its chief product officer told Plagiarism Today that the team studied leading humanizers and trained the model on the patterns they leave, because humanizers "also leave a statistical trace." The feature is available to schools on Turnitin Originality, and like the paraphrase check it only runs on English submissions.
In the instructor's AI writing report, flagged text now falls into two groups, according to Turnitin's own guide:
So the honest answer to "can Turnitin detect a humanizer" is: it is trying to, and cheap synonym swappers are the easiest target. A tool that only replaces words keeps every sentence the same length and order, which is exactly the trace Turnitin trained on. PureWrite rebuilds sentences instead, and it is designed to pass Turnitin, GPTZero, ZeroGPT, Originality.ai and Copyleaks. But Turnitin updates its model without notice and does not offer a public checker, so no humanizer, including ours, can promise a Turnitin result.
Most students never see the instructor view, which is why Turnitin scores feel mysterious. Here is what is on that screen:
| Element | What it means |
|---|---|
| AI percentage | The share of qualifying prose Turnitin thinks was AI-generated. Reference lists, bullet lists and short fragments are often excluded from the count. |
| An asterisk instead of a number | Scores between 1% and 19% show as an asterisk, because Turnitin treats that range as too unreliable to report. Our guide on what the Turnitin percentage means goes deeper. |
| Highlighted passages | Sentences colored by category, so your instructor can see which paragraphs drove the score. |
| The similarity report | A separate plagiarism score. A humanizer does nothing to it, so cite your sources properly. |
Turnitin itself tells schools the AI score should not be the only basis for action against a student. A flag usually starts a conversation with your instructor rather than ending one. For the wider picture, see does Turnitin check for AI and what Turnitin checks for.
If your assignment allows AI help, the strongest position is not a low score; it is being able to show how you wrote the paper. Process evidence is what settles a disputed flag. A workflow that holds up:
Outline it yourself
Write the thesis and section points in your own words before any AI is involved.
Use AI for the rough draft
Only where your course policy allows it, and only for the parts it allows.
Humanize the draft
Run the body paragraphs through PureWrite and check the built-in score.
Add what only you know
Lecture points, class readings, your own examples. AI cannot invent these convincingly, and instructors notice when they are missing.
Keep version history
Write in Google Docs or Word with history on. A timeline of edits is the clearest proof that the work is yours.
The AI essay humanizer page has more on keeping an essay's structure intact while you rewrite.
False positives happen, especially for non-native English writers and very formal prose. If it happens to you:
Most free "Turnitin humanizers" are word spinners: they swap synonyms and shuffle clauses. That is the exact pattern Turnitin's AI-paraphrased category was built for, and it often makes an essay read worse. A real rewrite costs compute, which is why good tools are paid.
You can try PureWrite on a short passage with a free account, no card needed. For a full essay, the Essay Pack gives you 30,000 words for $10.99 with no subscription, or go Pro for $9.99 a month. The pricing page lists every plan.
Use it responsibly
PureWrite is for your own drafts and for AI-assisted writing your course permits. If an assignment bans AI, a humanizer does not make it allowed. Why trust this guide
We build both sides of this problem: a humanizer that rewrites AI text and an AI detector that scores it. That means every guide here is written by the same team that tunes the engine against the patterns AI detectors flag, so the advice reflects what actually passes today, not last year.
FAQ
Sometimes. Since August 2025 Turnitin has run AI bypasser detection, trained on the output of popular humanizers, and it already flagged AI text that was paraphrased. Word-level spinners are the easiest for it to catch. A rewrite that changes sentence structure and rhythm holds up better, but Turnitin updates its model without notice, so no tool can honestly promise a Turnitin score.
